What is an educator of the year?

A teacher, guidance counsellor, principal, or anyone who works in, or recently retired from, educating our students and creating the best learning opportunities for them.

They show:
• Exemplary educator practices
• Remarkable initiative and support for their students learning and development
• A distinguished personal service beyond the classroom and in their community

Can only teachers apply?

No, this awards program is open to all active or recently retired educators. Whether you’re a teacher, principal, or guidance counselor, we want to honour everyone.

Can I nominate more than one person?

Only one person is allowed per nomination, but you can fill out as many nominations as you’d like.

When does the nomination period end?

The final day to submit your nomination is April 26th, by 8 PM ET.

How many prizes are there?

There are a total of three grand prizes (one per region) of $10,000. $5,000 for the selected educator and $5,000 for their school.

How will I be notified if I've won?

Winners will be notified by a Johnson representative via email thanking them for their fantastic work.

When will winners be announced?

Winners will be announced by June 17, 2022.

Who are the judges?

The final jury includes a range of educators and sponsors from across the country, as well as representatives of the RTOERO.

Do I need to live in a specific province to be eligible?

Yes, in order to be eligible you must be an active or recently retired educator of one of the following provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island.

Applicants from Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon or the North West Territories are not eligible for this awards program.
